Pain Body

"Pain Body" depicts a collapsing figure, as an internal creative force bursts outward. A self-portrait, it translates a lived mix of technology, intuition, and intensity into a somatic image. The title borrows from Eckhart Tolle's 'pain body', an inner field of trapped life energy, the living past lodged in the present. Making the work parallels the labor of integrating trauma; rather than repressing what is confusing or unnamable, the image-making process allows it to surface.
