Hourglass

"Hourglass" is a still life composed from 3D models and an instance of 'memento mori', a reminder that life is finite and death inevitable. Recast in the animated medium of the lightbox, illumination itself evokes breath, movement, and the semblance of living presence. In an era captivated by defeating death through technologically accelerated medicine, or the pursuit of immortality via image, reputation, or art, this work reopens an old question. Why must we die, and why are we so desperate to resist it?
